New allotments for Shannon in County Clare.

Looks like its good news for Shannon in County Clare as next week (Monday, 6 April 2009) sees the official launch of the Shannon Allotments Scheme at Illaunmanagh Cemetery.

The development of the site by Clare County Council is estimated to have cost approx €15,000 taking into account ground preparation, fencing, laying on water, and additional car-parking.

The basic outline I have heard is that comprises 30 to 40 plots at a fee of about €30 per year. Needless to say these have been snapped up pretty quickly as there was already a long waiting list.

I am waiting on further details, which when received will allow me to add this allotment scheme to my allotments-by county list.

This timely move puts County Clare on the allotment map and should get the ball rolling in further towns and counties bereft of these communal growing areas.

The Mayors of Clare and Shannon will officially launch the Shannon Allotments Scheme at Illaunmanagh Cemetery on Monday, 6 April 2009 at 5 pm.
